This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of Nondestructive Testing specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will perform development and production activities involving Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of assuring part integrity, quality and life span. This position will primarily be involved in the Ultrasonic inspections of flight critical hardware and test samples

§ 02SHIFT DAYS/TIMES

B Shift/2nd shift                            Monday - Thursday (3:00 PM – 1:30AM)

§ 03RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
  • Perform inspections using Ultrasonic equipment
  • Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawing or shop work order.
  • Documentation and organization of inspection results.
  • Interface/communicate with Engineers and/or Managers to describe inspection results.
  • Perform volumetric NDE inspections with advanced phased array ultrasonics
  • Support research and development in to full matrix capture phased array ultrasonic for operational improvement and optimization
  • Assist in training and developing others within the team
  • Support the development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries
§ 04QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Qualify to certify to level II status (angle beam weld) per ASME BPVC V, ISO 9712 or ASNT CP189 requirements in Ultrasonic with a minimum amount of documented experience of 800 hours.
  • Must meet the minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in Ultrasound methods
    • Conventional UT – 80 hours
    • Phased Array Training – 80 hours
  • Must be able to pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (General Test study materials will be provided if needed)
  • Meet minimum Vision Requirements:
    1. Near Vision: Either 20/25 (Snellen) at 16" or Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12”
    2. Color Perception: 14 Plate Ishihara Color Test with a minimum of 12 panels correctly identified.
  • Familiar and understand the requirements defined in ASTM E164 Standard Practice for Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Weldments.
  • Familiar and understand the requirements defined in ASTM E 2375 Standard Practice for Ultrasonic Testing of Wrought Products
  • Familiar and understand the requirements defined in ASTM E2700 Standard Practice for Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Welds Using Phased Arrays
  • Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations for inspection activity
  • Capable in analyzing resultant data from metallic and composite structures
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
  • Experience with MS Office products is required
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends and off shifts as needed to meet critical deadlines     
  • Ability to work off shifts
  • Ability to lift and transport parts and/or inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
  • Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Comfortable working off of platforms, scissor lifts and or aerial boom lifts
§ 05DESIRED:
  • Advance Phased Array Training including Total Focusing Method.
  • Eddy Current Array Training and experience
  • Familiar and understand the requirements defined in ASTM E2884 Standard Guide for Eddy Current Testing of Electrically Conducting Materials Using Conformable Sensor Arrays
  • Familiar and understand the requirements defined in NASA PRC-6509 Process Specification for Eddy Current Inspection.
  • Experience in analyzing resultant data from metallic and composite structures
  • Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
  • Carded by a state or a certifying entity (such as ASNT, IRRSP) as a radiographer for X-ray.
  • Ability meet the minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in other methods including;  Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle.
  • Ability to certify in one or more of the following methods;  Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared, or emergent methods Terahertz and/or Laser Shearograpy per NAS-410.
  • 40 hours of Radiation Safety Training
  • 40 hours of Digital Radiography Training
  • Training in Computed and Digital Radiography.
  • Carded by a state or a certifying entity (such as ASNT, IRRSP) as a radiographer for X-ray.
  • Knowledge of industry NDT standards
  • Experience in a production environment, preferably in aerospace
  • Experience with automated/robotic inspection equipment  
  • 1+ years of aerospace experience
