This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin design, manufacture, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health and safety, product integrity and continuous improvement processes serve the Blue Origin Mission and Vision.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will inspect development and flight vehicle components for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of providing accurate data on tight tolerance high value components to determine configuration per engineering designs. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

§ 02POSITION SPECIFIC DETAILS:
  • Shift: A | Mon-Thurs (5am-3:30pm) 

  • Shift: C | Fri-Sun (5am-5:30pm) 

  • Shift: B | Mon-Thurs (3:30pm-2am) 

  • Location: Space Coast, FL 

  • Relocation: Available 

  • Travel: Up to 10% for training and support activities 

§ 03RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform dimensional inspections using various metrology systems including Laser Trackers, CMMs, Blue Light Scanners, and Romer Arms

  • Program, setup, and operate measurement systems utilizing software such as Spatial Analyzer, PC-DMIS, or equivalent metrology software platforms

  • Setup and utilize mechanical inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, height gages, optical comparators, surface plates, and various precision gages

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and design data to inspect machined and received components

  • Perform first article, in-process, and final dimensional inspections of aerospace components and assemblies

  • Create and manage data analysis templates and inspection reports using Microsoft Excel and other documentation tools

  • Provide dimensional feedback to machinists, manufacturing teams, and engineers to support production and design decisions

  • Generate and document Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) with accurate dimensional data and analysis

  • Manage and track tooling inspections and calibration schedules

  • Implement process improvements such as inspection cycle time reductions and enhanced measurement techniques

  • Maintain configuration control on all inspection files, programs, and job records

  • Safely work within an industrial environment around flight critical hardware

§ 04QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5-8 years of experience in dimensional inspection of aerospace or precision manufacturing components

  • Blueprint reading skills including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5M-2009 and ASME Y14.5-2018

  • Proficient in the use of precision hand tools, gages, optical comparators, and surface plate inspection techniques

  • Experience with at least one advanced metrology system (Laser Tracker, CMM, Blue Light Scanners, Romer Arms, Taylor Hobson, or similar coordinate measurement equipment)

  • Ability to inspect tight tolerance, high value components with accuracy and repeatability

  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management Systems and/or related quality systems and programs

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards

§ 05DESIRED:
  • Experience operating multiple metrology systems including CMMs, Laser Trackers, Blue Light Scanners, Romer Arms, and/or Taylor Hobson

  • Spatial Analyzer, PC-DMIS, or other metrology software programming experience

  • CAD system knowledge (Creo, Windchill, or similar)

  • Experience with Model Based Engineering/Definition per ASME Y14.41-2012

  • Advanced machining knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes

  • Design for Manufacturability and Producibility knowledge

  • Experience operating material handling equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware

  • Experience in tooling design reviews ensuring compliance with ASME requirements

  • Knowledge of tooling source inspection and Method of Acceptance Tooling

  • Knowledge of metrology equipment calibration standards (ASME B89.4.19, ASME B89.4.10360.2-2008, or equivalent)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
