This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This role is part of the Launch Operations team, which provides centralized support to our Business Units with a focus on designing, building, and maintaining ground systems and test and launch facilities.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will enhance our New Glenn Operations in all aspects of crane and rigging functions. You will be responsible for designing critical lift plans, directing and signaling lifts, and performing standard daily lifting activities. A key part of your role will be inspecting and properly using rigging hardware, maintaining training records, and ensuring all lifting operations are conducted with the highest commitment to safety.
Shifts Available: B | Sun-Wed (5pm-5:30am), D | Wed-Sat (5pm-5:30am)
Relocation: Available
Travel: Up to 10% for training and related activities
Operate mobile cranes and other material handling equipment to safely lift, move, and position large, critical flight hardware.
Develop, review, and execute detailed lift plans, ensuring compliance with all procedures and engineering specifications.
Install and remove tooling on flight hardware; safely rig hardware for lifting, transport, and orientation changes.
Perform rigging calculations for sling angles, tensions, and center of gravity to ensure load stability and safety.
Conduct pre-use inspections of all rigging hardware, slings, and lifting devices to ensure they are in proper working condition and compliant with company policy.
Communicate with Launch Operations Control and collaborate with engineering teams to prioritize work based on schedule, document processes, and drive continuous improvement.
Direct lifts using standard hand and voice signals and provide clear communication to the entire lift team.
Work off-shift, extended hours, overtime, and weekends if/when necessary.
High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
4+ years of experience as a mobile crane operator.
National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) or equivalent certification (LBT, LBC, TSS, TLL).
Certified Rigger and Signalperson.
Extensive knowledge of industry rigging standards and practices (e.g., ASME, OSHA, SPFCMAN 91-710).
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a good driving record.
Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written work instructions.
Ability to pass an Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral access.
Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, kneeling, crouching, and working at elevated heights.
Willingness to work any assigned shift, overtime, and weekends as needed to meet critical launch milestones.
Experience operating cranes with lattice and lock and pin booms.
Experience working in the aerospace industry.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Experience operating air-bearing carts for moving hardware.
Broad/deep Crane/Rigging Operations planning abilities
