This role is part of Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE), supporting Blue Origin’s mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The team fosters innovation and drives engineering workflows of the future, shared solutions and standards, simplicity and lower costs, and manufacturable design.

We are seeking a skilled Technician with experience working in M&P labs who will leverage their technical expertise and leadership to ensure safe and efficient laboratory operations.  This role involves performing material testing as part of a team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. As part of a small, hardworking, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for material testing in the M&P Labs.  This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. 

§ 02RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Perform laboratory analysis per industry standard test methods.  
  • Summarize, document, and communicate results to stakeholders 
  • Develop standard methods, training material, and related documentation for laboratory processes 
  • Demonstrate strict attention to detail in executing laboratory analyses 
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities 
  • Identify new equipment to expand laboratory capability and improve responsiveness 
  • Safely work with hazardous systems containing chemicals, elevated and cryogenic temperatures, and/or high pressure
§ 03MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least 5 years experience working in material test laboratories, or comparable environment. 
  • Experience using mechanical testing load frames (tension, compression, flexure, etc.) 
  • Experience with basic hand tools and precision measurement devices (calipers, micrometers, etc.) 
  • Experience with engineering laboratory skills: weights and measures, chemical hygiene, materials safety planning, personal protective equipment, contamination control, workload organization and planning 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive project and task execution to meet or beat scheduled need dates 
  • Extremely customer focused, critical thinker with strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • A continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always optimizing 
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and comfortable working at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and/or in confined spaces. 
  • Ability to work with and around chemicals and other hazardous materials 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Work off-shift, extended hours overtime, and weekends if/when necessary 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum 
§ 04PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with ASTM E8, E9, E21, E1450, D638, D1002, D568, and other common aerospace mechanical testing standards 
  • Experience with Instron and/or MTS operating systems 
  • Understanding of typical aerospace testing and quality processes 
  • Understanding of the types of materials and processes used to fabricate aerospace components
  • Experience in CAD modeling
  • Experience with 3D printing

Base Pay Range for:

WA applicants is $36.60 - $51.23
