§ 01OVERVIEW

Application close date:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

This is an entry, mid or senior level GTAW (TIG) Welder position supporting a new advanced hardware program at Blue Origin. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced welders and manufacturing engineers to perform manual GTAW welding operations on aerospace-grade materials under direct supervision. This is a hands-on, learn-by-doing role in an early-phase manufacturing environment — you will develop your welding skills on hardware while building the foundational knowledge needed to advance as a welder.

§ 02RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Performing manual GTAW (TIG) welding operations on aerospace components under the direction of senior welders, following approved weld procedure specifications (WPS) and detailed work instructions

  • Preparing weld joints — cleaning, fitting, tacking, and positioning parts in fixtures and tooling per engineering drawings and process documentation

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and technical work instructions to understand joint configurations, material types, and acceptance criteria

  • Performing visual self-inspection of completed welds against workmanship standards; identifying and reporting defects such as porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, or excessive reinforcement to the lead welder or quality inspector

  • Setting up and maintaining GTAW welding equipment — selecting correct filler wire, tungsten electrodes, shielding gas, and machine parameters per the applicable WPS

  • Using hand tools and precision measuring equipment — calipers, fillet gages, weld inspection gages, and tape measures — to verify fit-up dimensions and weld profiles

  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area; adhering to all PPE requirements, safety protocols, welding ventilation standards, and housekeeping practices

  • Assisting senior welders with complex weld assemblies — positioning parts, purging back-side shielding gas, monitoring interpass temperatures, and handling post-weld operations such as grinding and blending

  • Participating in weld practice, qualification testing, and skills development activities to expand position and material certifications

  • Supporting material handling and shop operations — moving weldments, staging parts at work cells, and assisting with fixture setup and teardown

§ 03MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED

  • 0–10 years of GTAW (TIG) welding experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or vocational training environment; welding school or technical program coursework counts

  • Must be able to read and interpret basic engineering drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and technical work instructions

  • Basic knowledge of GTAW welding fundamentals — joint types, filler metals, shielding gas selection, tungsten preparation, and machine setup

  • Must be able to pass a practical weld test (1G and 2G minimum) on carbon steel or stainless steel

  • Comfortable using hand tools and basic precision measuring equipment (calipers, tape measures, fillet gages)

  • Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs

  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn from experienced welders in a fast-paced environment

§ 04PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a welding technology program from an accredited vocational school, community college, or trade school

  • AWS D17.1 awareness or entry-level GTAW certification on any material group

  • Exposure to welding on stainless steel, aluminum, or nickel-based alloys (Inconel, Haynes) in a training or production setting

  • Familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) concepts — visual inspection criteria, dye penetrant, or radiographic testing acceptance standards

  • Familiarity with weld procedure specifications (WPS) and procedure qualification records (PQR)

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or precision industrial manufacturing

  • Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist)

  • Willingness to work varied shifts, weekends, and overtime as the production schedule requires

  • Experience with 5S methodology or lean workplace practices

§ 05SPECIAL MENTIONS
  • Relocation provided

  • Interviews will include a technical assessment

  • Multiple positions available

§ 06CULTURE STATEMENT

Don’t meet all desired requirements? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building an authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every desired qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
