Application close date:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will design, analyze, and optimize complex engine components, assemblies and systems.  A successful candidate will apply their knowledge to analyze and investigate potential modes of structural failure to ensure products meet maintenance and life cycle objectives.  You will work with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions for challenging structural problems across various applications.  You will be responsible for structural analysis of components and assemblies to support fabrication, testing, production and operational life cycle.

§ 02SPECIAL MENTIONS
  • Relocation provided
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time
§ 03RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Lead structural analysis of rotating and static components/assemblies through design, development, testing and validation.
  • Complete detailed hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) of rotating and static hardware to evaluate strength, fatigue, and creep.
  • Collaborate with team members from various fields and backgrounds to perform trade studies which consider operating environment and duty cycle, to optimize design performance and durability.
  • Document stress analysis to support release of engineering drawings and documents
  • Improve enterprise analysis capabilities by creating process automation tools for model creation, strength checks, and analysis report generation
  • Support test plan development to verify requirements and generate material and structural data necessary to establish confidence in design solutions
§ 04MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S. degree in engineering discipline and 5+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with one or more of the following analysis codes, ANSYS Workbench, Nastran, Abaqus, LS-Dyna
  • Solid understanding of structural analysis/mechanics and failure modes (strength, fatigue, creep)
  • Experience with analysis of welded assemblies and bolted joints.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications to achieve optimal structural
  • Demonstrated experience using scripting languages (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.)
  • Experience with structural analysis of rotating machinery (turbopumps, compressors, fans)
§ 05PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS Degree in engineering discipline and 2+ years of relevant industry experience
