This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.In thisroleyou will work asaFaultManagementSystems Engineer,developingsystem-level faultprotectionbehaviors and leadingsubsystem teams in the integration of lower-levelfault protection.You will be a key technical voiceat the interface ofsubsystems, safety, and operations teams toensure thesafety and reliabilityof crewed and uncrewedlunarmissions.
- DesigningautonomousFault Detection Isolation and Recovery (FDIR)mechanisms, includingfault protection state machines, monitors, and responses
- Decomposing failure modes, effects, and criticality analyses (FMECA),fault tree analyses (FTA), and hazard analysesinto the required system autonomy
- Defining and modeling vehicle states, modes, conditions, activities, and functions
- Leading cross-functional working groups with subsystem engineers to develop and integrate the required fault protection mechanisms
- Supportingimplementation ofautonomous behaviors in flight software
- Supportingthe broader lunar program inthe development ofsystem of systemmodels and timelines
- Supporting systems safety work, asrequired
B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, or related technical subject area
Highly knowledgeable of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and mission/safety critical systems
Strong ability and desire to analyze complex systems and deliver solutions to results-oriented problems
Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
Successful candidates typically have 5+ years of relevant experience
M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, Software, Electrical, or related technical subject area
Demonstrated experience developing fault protection, FDIR, or autonomous response behaviors for spacecraft, launch vehicles, aircraft, or comparable complex systems
Technical knowledge in multiple subsystems, particularly guidance navigation & control, and flight software
Experience with full spacecraft design life cycle
Experience working on large complex programs with multiple partners
Experience with requirements definition and management, preferably using Jama
Experience with software tools such as Git, Jama, Cameo, Confluence, and JIRA
