This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.Shift: A Shift Monday -Friday (7:00AM-3:30PM)
Engage in design prior to the PDR phase and follow the design to completion, making fabrication suggestions and driving those to change.
Implement changes where necessary to accommodate in-house fabrication capabilities. Provide final approval for manufacturability.
Work closely with fabrication planners to manage build sequence and schedule of hardware throughout the manufacturing development process. This includes but not limited to providing cut length, material thickness, etc.
Interrogate CAD models for fit form and function.
Support inspection of all components and assemblies for blueprint conformance, including interpreting GD&T. Develop an inspection plan to progressively inspect details and submit a final inspection report with a completed tool.
Collaborate with leadership to align work priorities with Blue Origin priorities.
Implement safety and efficiency enhancements in the assembly process.
Define and support repair and rework activities.
Develop a standard tooling shop practice that details methods used in tool fabrication and assembly not specifically outlined on the drawing.
Over 10 years of experience in tooling fabrication and assembly, preferably in the aerospace industry.
Strong model/ blueprint interpretation skills specific to welding and tool assembly.
Detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic and effective communication abilities in fast-paced team environments. Work collaboratively with Tool Designers and Engineers throughout the design and build process.
Customer-focused mindset with proven teamwork skills across multiple teams.
Exceptional organizational and analytical skills to manage complex projects independently.
Experience working with large tooling (monuments) in design, fabrication and build taking the project cradle to grave.
Advanced mechanical assembly skills in hardware installation and tooling assembly, including working with large structural components.
With most tools requiring weld a strong knowledge of welding and material selection along with process definition to limit machining after weld is required.
Advanced computer literacy, including knowledge of CAD systems and breakdown of models.
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in tool and die making.
Journeyman Tool Maker certification, military technical training, or equivalent experience.
Exposure to large tooling components.
The ability to learn corrective repairs on a variety of complex and noncomplex Mechanical & Electrical equipment with minimal supervision.
Understanding of best practices related to 5S incorporation and to FOD elimination.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
